All the subtleties of traveling to Zanzibar
Zanzibar is an island and at the same time the name of the whole archipelago in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa. It is located only 35 kilometers from the mainland. The resort has a lot of advantages: a very rich cultural heritage of their ancestors, the cleanest ocean, animal diversity. All the best beaches are arranged in the south and southeast of Zanzibar, and nightlife and entertainment prevail in the northern part. The capital of the entire archipelago is the city of Stone Town.
Just a few decades ago, young romantic tourists came here with backpacks and tents, lived in unity with nature. And now, right next to the coast, hotels have been built and hotels from three stars and above. But the youth’s romantic mood did not go away, so the area for wild relaxation remained in the very north of the island.
But getting to Zanzibar is hard, because there are no direct flights from anywhere. The easiest way to fly to Dar es Salaam, and from there in 15-20 minutes you can fly to Zanzibar in a private plane.
It is especially pleasant here to lie on one of the beaches, on white sand-like sand. Along the beautiful coast are several villages of fishermen. Not far from Stone Town, there are two large beaches where you can find something for yourself from water sports, and a little to the north there is a secluded and quiet Mangapwani beach. In the very north of Zanzibar Island, near the village of Nungwi, it is pleasant to swim in lagoons full of coral reefs. The northeast is famous among divers, and these places have long been chosen by them.
Island Attractions, Fun & Tours
The capital of Zanzibar, Stone Town, was founded as far back as the ninth century by merchants of eastern countries. Probably one of the reasons for the foundation of the city was its picturesque places on the coast. Now the capital is a labyrinth of interwoven streets and alleys with a chaotic arrangement of mosques, bazaars, small tents and shops, fortresses and courtyards. The decoration of the city are the former palaces of the once ruling sultans, ancient baths of the time of Persia, a huge collection of the most unusual buildings of consulates and embassies of other countries, colonial villas, mansions. Visitors often visit the ruins of the palace, located near the city limits, the beautiful forest of Hosani and the “Cave of Slaves”. And in the area of the “Turtle Island” tourists are offered to see such large turtles, which you will not see in any reserve or zoo. The forest in this area is extremely rich in rare plants that are not found anywhere else.
Previously, Zanzibar was a worldwide source of spices and spices, so vacationers are offered a “spice tour” every day. During this tour, it’s real to learn how to tear coconuts from a palm tree, distinguish between jackfruit and breadfruit, as well as cut yourself cinnamon and try it all.
You can go to this resort almost the whole year. But the best season lasts first in the summer and until mid-autumn. During this period of time there is practically no rain, the weather is not hot. In the remaining months, the rainy season lasts, but it does not bother anyone to fully relax.
Zanzibar is a great base for a comfortable trip in Tanzania and neighboring states. In addition to the standard set: beaches, the sea, beautiful hotels – the city has a rich culture and history. The local people are wonderful in that they took all the best from Africa and Asia. Zanzibar is the birthplace of the Swahili language, almost half of Africa now speaks it, but it is the Zanzibar version that does not have dialects, it is the most “pure”. Absolutely everything here is real, and people here are different too.
